THE CIGAR – 1502 EMERALD by GLOBAL PREMIUM CIGARS

This cigar was named after the year Columbus first discovered Nicaragua. Jesus, is there any place this guy didn’t discover? What a show off. Speaking of firsts, the 1502 Emerald has a feature known as the “Cigar Lock” which entails the wrapper of the cigar extending down past the binder and filler and folding down around the edges of the foot (see photo above). This nifty detail is supposed to help you “light the cigar from the outside first to the inside, the way a cigar should be lit” and then give you a “full dose of Nicaraguan flavors in your mouth”. And guess what? Upon lighting, the 1502 Emerald actually did produce an immediate blast of flavors in our mouths! Earthy floral notes and a dominant taste of fine leather introduced themselves immediately and they stayed to party with us throughout the duration of the cigar. There were also some other brief notes that came and went quickly, so quickly in fact that we couldn’t quite identify them and that’s always kinda fun (and frustrating). This cigar held steady on the mild side of medium strength throughout the night and it’s proof that mild does NOT equate to a lack of complexity or diversity in flavors. Like the Undercrown Shade we reviewed back in Episode 17, the 1502 Emerald would be an ideal cigar to try if you’re a newcomer to the world of premium cigars but it’s also refined and complex enough to impress the seasoned veteran of the leaf. All of our burn lines were even all the way through the end and several of us commented on the top notch construction that lasted until the cigar was a nub.

This cigar will run you about $7.50 and by the time you’re done with it you will feel the extremely fair price point is a bargain.

THE BEER – GUINNESS EXTRA STOUT

Creamy. Dark roasted flavors of roasted barley. Creamy. Creamy. This beer did not contrast at all with the milder cigar, actually they played really nicely off each other. I’m always afraid when programming the show that if I pair a lighter shade milder cigar with a darker beer it will be a clash but the opposite has proven more often than not to be the case. If I’m drinking a creamy fucking beer I don’t necessarily need a creamy fucking cigar to go with it. The floral and leather notes of the cigar really bounced off the Extra Stout beautifully, they played exceptionally well together despite their differences. North and South Korea, are you listening? And did I mention that this beer was CREAMY? CREAMY.

THE FILM – HALLOWEEN 3 (1982)

Probably, like most folks, you only know Halloween 3 as that movie without Michael Myers, that annoyingly catchy commercial jingle, and featuring those damn masks…

That’s understandable to a point. There’s so much I want to say on this amazing film but I relay all of it and more on the podcast so please, I IMPLORE YOU, give it a listen. Cinematography perfection by Dean Cundey, the most effective score John Carpenter ever composed, an honest-to-God bone chilling storyline. But just in case you’re still on the fence and you need that extra nudge, there’s this…

TOM FUCKING ATKINS. A legend was born with this film. Why? Was it the mustache? Was it the impressive day drinking skills? Was it the Cade-esque effortless seduction skills with the ladies? Well, we go into that at length on the podcast so you’re just going to have to listen. I promise, it’ll be worth it. There’s also…

Those creepy fucking masks that will have you squirming in your tighty whities...

For our long term listeners, I put this show right up there with our “Swamp Thing” and “Sleepaway Camp” retrospectives. It’s that good if I do say so myself. Maybe some day some other dude will say it but for now you’ll have to take my unbiased word for how great we are. Now get your ass to the podcast!

Thank you for checking out The Tuesday Night Cigar Club and we’ll see you next time when we review another cigar, adult beverage, and film. May the wings of liberty never lose a feather.
