Episode 125 – Slugs (1988), Tatuaje Black cigar, Beers

Happy Halloween!!!

“Look, everything we’ve learned about hermaphroditic sex came from a 1986 issue of Hustler Magazine so bear us. We’re doing the best we can here!”

Tonight we conclude our 6th annual March To Halloween Horrorific Drinking Spooktacular Extravaganza!!! Or some shit like that… And what better way to wrap things up and celebrate Halloween than with a delicious cigar, some cold craft beers, and a gory creature feature about homocidal hermaphroditic slugs feasting on human blood? Yep, there truly is no better way.

THE CIGAR – TATUAJE BLACK by TATUAJE

Size: 5 5/8 x 46 (corona gorda)
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Sun Grown Criollo Estelí
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Price: $10.00 (and remember when purchasing some fine Tatuaje premium cigars from FamousSmokeShop.com to use your new favorite promo code TNCC20 at checkout where it will knock $20 off your purchase of $100 or more!)

The Tatuaje Black is immediately appealing to the eyes with its beautiful golden brown wrapper that glistens under the studio lights. It features a chocolate chip cap and it’s oily as hell – just a beautiful overall presentation. We’re featuring a movie tonight that features jet black slugs so we’re smoking a fucking Black Cigar – that’s cigar pairing expertise on display so soak it in boys and ghouls… soak it in. The cold draw revealed a BRIGHT woodsiness, some sweetness, and a tinge of barnyard.

White pepper on the nose and that BRIGHT pronounced cedar woodsy flavor through the draw are the immediate impressions. There’s a slight juicy natural sweetness that’s noticeable on the downlow via the draw but what’s there is awesome. Construction is excellent throughout with a clear draw, straight burn line, and a strong ash. A super smooth leathery note dominates the second half but the cedar hangs in there and that pepper is always very present on the retrohale. We liked how the strength increased throughout the smoking experience, it just builds and builds continuously, and the cigar goes to full body and full strength in that final third. We all dug the Tatuaje Black quite a bit!

FINAL TNCC GRADE: 91

THE BEERS

Once again folks, usually (before this mini apocalypse was thrust upon all of us) we would carefully – some of you have said “expertly” – pair our evening’s beer with the cigar and movie and we’d all drink that same beer and compare notes. But since this whole COVID-19 shitshow has happened, each member of the TNCC is now solely responsible for risking their lives out in the wild and acquiring their own beers for each episode…

YAK BOY’S BEER – IRISH STOUT by MURPHY’S BREWERY

This Irish black beauty not only pairs beautifully thematically with tonight’s Black cigar but it also, actually, paired very well flavor wise as well. Well done Yaks!

TUT’S BEER – SHINER OKTOBERFEST by SPOETZL BREWERY

Tut said it has nice maltiness and just a minimal amount of spice to keep things interesting BUT if you really want to know how the TNCC feels about this beer then go to Episode 19 and then go to Episode 58 because it’s the only beer we’ve reviewed TWICE BEFORE on the podcast because we’re a bunch of drunks and forgot we did it the first time and then Tut totally forgot about those 2 times and bought it again tonight! Say what you want about The Tuesday Night Cigar Club but we NEVER learn from our mistakes. EVER. Obviously there’s somethings about this mediocre beer that we just can’t stay away from… what that something is I’ll never understand…

CADE’S BEER – DNR by COOP ALE WORKS

A Belgium style dark ale that features a dead body with a toe tag on the BLACK can (so I obviously win tonight’s pairing competition as tonight’s film has a ton of dead bodies in it)… man, this beer features so many flavors that your brain box will explode trying to figure them all out. And at 10% ABV, good luck trying to figure anything out after your second pint… raisins, dates, maybe some apple, just tons of fruit notes and a ton of malts. I wouldn’t recommend drinking this beer when reviewing a cigar but… here we are.

THE FILM – SLUGS (1988)

SLUGS! There’s no other name they could have called this film, Satan’s Sewer maybe, Horror From Below perhaps…no.. it’s just simply called Slugs. And that’s exactly what it should be called. There’s so many fucking slugs in this movie! And there’s so many memorable characters, hilarious dialogue, gruesome practical special effects, so we beg you to watch SLUGS this Halloween night as it has everything we love about creature features in it!

And if you defy our advice and don’t watch Slugs, you can expect The TNCC to give you looks like these the next time we see you…

THE NUB

Please leave us comments on the YouTube episode page, provide us with a review on iTunes, or be a real stud and do both! All these seemingly small gestures would be greatly appreciated as they let us know exactly what you’re thinking about this sweat soaked tidal wave of hardbodied insanity we like to call The Tuesday Night Cigar Club.

Trick or treat motherfuckers!!!

Below is tonight’s full episode for both your viewing and listening pleasure. Thank you for checking out The Tuesday Night Cigar Club and we’ll see you next time when we review another cigar, adult beverage, and film. May the wings of liberty never lose a feather…
