The Doctor

The Doctor attended The Poughkeepsie Institute of Technical Science or, as it is colloquially referred to, The Pits. His thesis paper "It's Far to Early to Tell" has been used in classrooms as an example of how NOT to formulate a medical science theory. The Doctor was previously employed in Mallorca, Spain as a master of ceremonies and first aid provider at local wine tastings before joining the Tuesday Night Cigar Club.
  • Film Review – Super Troopers 2 (2018)

In his unforgettable performance as The Joker in Tim Burton’s Batman, Jack Nicholson asked “Haven’t you people ever heard of the healing power of laughter?” The Doctor certainly has, and I celebrate this healing power every day. In fact, I possess a lifelong affinity for what the sober and...
  • Film Review – Ready Player One (2018)

Eons ago, The Doctor came to the realization that books and movies are two entirely different entertainment mediums and should be judged accordingly. More to the point, books should be judged against other books and movies should be judged against other movies; crossing the streams is an unfair exercise....
  • Hope Springs Eternal

Hope Springs Eternal Imagine the changing of the seasons, if you will. The Super Bowl has ended and the doldrums of winter’s short days have enveloped the soul. All of existence seems to have been coated in a viscous, choking grey mist reminiscent of Jack the Ripper’s Whitechapel. New...
  • Film Review – The Strangers: Prey At Night (2018)

Perhaps there are some who consider the horror subgenre known as the slasher film to be an antiquated relic of the not-so-glorious past, and with good riddance. Nothing more than lowbrow entertainment for beer-drunk simpletons like The Doctor and others of his ilk, they say. Well, I say that...
  • Film Review – Death Wish (2018)

The time has long since passed when your friendly Doctor used to complain about the dearth of originality that resulted in so many films being remade. I’d say I was intemperate in my youth, but I’m not exactly temperate now; one just sometimes has to settle into a mode...

I was consuming milk thistle and gently massaging my liver in a hotel room prior to a recent Tuesday Night Cigar Club podcast when the remote control organically found its way to the Turner Classic Movies channel. Thanks to a cosmic twist of fate, the early evening movie was...
  • Film Review – Hostiles (2018)

These days western films enjoy a theatrical release about as often as The Doctor’s Dallas Cowboys win playoff games – well, that’s unfairly inaccurate, there have been more than two westerns released in the last twenty years, but I’ve made my point. Whenever a tale of the old west...
  • Film Review – Darkest Hour (2017)

If a favored pastime of the Tuesday Night Cigar Club involves the discussing of films whilst puffing away, then of course there positively must be a review of a movie concerning that most famous of cigar smokers, the inimitable Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill. Darkest Hour, starring an unrecognizable...
  • Review – Stranger Things, Season 2

I admit that I was excessively tardy to arrive at the table as far as Stranger Things was concerned. Despite repeated admonitions from Tuesday Night Cigar Club chairman Matt Cade, it took the good Doctor just over a year since Season 1 of Stranger Things was released on Netflix...
