The Doctor

The Doctor attended The Poughkeepsie Institute of Technical Science or, as it is colloquially referred to, The Pits. His thesis paper "It's Far to Early to Tell" has been used in classrooms as an example of how NOT to formulate a medical science theory. The Doctor was previously employed in Mallorca, Spain as a master of ceremonies and first aid provider at local wine tastings before joining the Tuesday Night Cigar Club.
  • Hope Springs Eternal

Hope Springs Eternal Imagine the changing of the seasons, if you will. The Super Bowl has ended and the doldrums of winter’s short days have enveloped the soul. All of existence seems to have been coated in a viscous, choking grey mist reminiscent of Jack the Ripper’s Whitechapel. New...
  • Film Review – The Strangers: Prey At Night (2018)

Perhaps there are some who consider the horror subgenre known as the slasher film to be an antiquated relic of the not-so-glorious past, and with good riddance. Nothing more than lowbrow entertainment for beer-drunk simpletons like The Doctor and others of his ilk, they say. Well, I say that...
  • Film Review – Death Wish (2018)

The time has long since passed when your friendly Doctor used to complain about the dearth of originality that resulted in so many films being remade. I’d say I was intemperate in my youth, but I’m not exactly temperate now; one just sometimes has to settle into a mode...
  • A Tuesday Night Cigar Club Tribute: When Movies Were Fun and Men Were Men

I was consuming milk thistle and gently massaging my liver in a hotel room prior to a recent Tuesday Night Cigar Club podcast when the remote control organically found its way to the Turner Classic Movies channel. Thanks to a cosmic twist of fate, the early evening movie was...
  • Film Review – Hostiles (2018)

These days western films enjoy a theatrical release about as often as The Doctor’s Dallas Cowboys win playoff games – well, that’s unfairly inaccurate, there have been more than two westerns released in the last twenty years, but I’ve made my point. Whenever a tale of the old west...
  • Film Review – Darkest Hour (2017)

If a favored pastime of the Tuesday Night Cigar Club involves the discussing of films whilst puffing away, then of course there positively must be a review of a movie concerning that most famous of cigar smokers, the inimitable Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill. Darkest Hour, starring an unrecognizable...
  • Review – Stranger Things, Season 2

I admit that I was excessively tardy to arrive at the table as far as Stranger Things was concerned. Despite repeated admonitions from Tuesday Night Cigar Club chairman Matt Cade, it took the good Doctor just over a year since Season 1 of Stranger Things was released on Netflix...
  • Film Review – Better Watch Out (2017)

“Twas the night of the Tuesday Night Cigar Club Christmas show, and all through the house, not a creature was sober, not even The Doctor’s pet mouse….” And so much for my attempt at poetry. I had a line prepared that went something like this: “Our stockings were misplaced,...
  • Film Review – The Babysitter (2017)

Unfortunately as a youth, The Doctor did not have any wild misadventures involving a babysitter to speak of. In fact, I can’t remember my parents ever employing a babysitter. At a very young age I had transformed the basement of my childhood home into a dungeon/laboratory where I spent...
